HBO in acute neurosensory hearing loss
There are six small randomised trials that generally suggest HBOT may help with sudden hearing loss if given within 2 weeks of the event. This may be because of increased oxygen supply in the small artery to the cochlear.
Associate Professor Mike Bennett, Prince of Wales Hospital, Sydney is studying this.
The treatment is used in Europe and Japan. Further study is needed and the Trust wishes to fund this.
